The Tokaido is one of the Goki-Seven Roads and Station Routes established during the Ritsuryo period [Note 1][Note 2] (Nakaro), and is the road from Kinai to the Kokufu of Hitachi Province.[2] Furthermore, from Hitachi Province (Tokaido) to Mutsu Province (Tosando).
