It is adapted from a 2013 "treason parricide case" that caused a sensation in Hong Kong. Zhang Xianzhong (played by Yang Weilun) and his friend Tang Wenqi (played by Mak Pei-tung) killed his parents in their apartment and dismembered them. The case entered court proceedings, and both men denied murder.
